Andrew Mennie met AIME Board Director, Bronwyn Bancroft when he sold her a pair of Aboriginal flag inspired socks at his stall at Bangalow Markets. Bronwyn introduced Andrew to Jack Manning Bancroft who showed Andrew some artworks created by AIME mentees. And just like that, the AIME Apparel and MENNIE collaboration was born.

"It was a no brainer for me to collaborate with an organisation that inspires me so much - it's a dream come true. The toughest part of the collab was choosing the artwork to use. I was sent a file full of the raddest artwork by young AIME mentees. Unable to choose just one, I went with two pieces by Ella and Ruby, I felt like the shapes and colours both artists used had the perfect flow to be used on socks." Andrew, MENNIE Founder and Owner.

The artwork used for these socks was created by Ella Gillespie, an AIME mentee in the SCU Lismore program. The artwork is titled ‘Travelling Whales’ and this is Ella's story:

“Living on the coast has encouraged me to paint stories of my surroundings. This artwork is my interpretation of the East coast humpback whale migration, the white lines represent the whales and their calves and the dots represent spouting and breaching whales.”
